Searching for answers, I studied Taoism and Psychology and learned about two personality types based on the principles of the Yin-Yang. Their basic roles are one person being the initiator in the relationship holding the vision for the couple and the other supporting that, with each partner flowing in and out of each type to create harmony in different situations.
Knowing your predominant type and the characteristics, allows a person to understand what they offer to a relationship and what to look for from others. This creates flowing partnerships, rather than typical competitive and frustrating interactions many relationships endure. Understanding your type also provides insight as to why you become anxious or fearful, and when you are not acting within your nature and why.
Unhealthy initiators are controlling and narcissistic. Unhealthy Supports have difficulty saying no to people and become overwhelmed trying to support everyone. In great relationships we move in and out of each type depending on the situation, our mood, and interactions we have with our partner. A single person can learn how to identify and choose their most complementary match for their type, allowing them a head start for the challenges that face every relationship.
Creating harmony in a strained relationship often requires an equivalent amount of work relative to the amount of change a person is looking for. This allows a person to know if they are, offering too much, are too needy, or with a person who is not offering them enough.

What the ancient and modern worlds can teach us about personality types and how this can help us in everyday life “You can tell someone’s personality type by what’s written under their hair. What is he like? Of course, what we hear Jane’s or whoever’s new boyfriend is like depends in part on the personality and perhaps current mood of the friend telling us what he is like. A pessimist might tell us, “He seems too good to be true” they might be right, of course ; whilst someone with a more positive bent of mind might simply state:

Personality theories and models – introduction Behavioural and personality models are widely used in organisations, especially in psychometrics and psychometric testing personality assessments and tests. Behavioural and personality models have also been used by philosophers, leaders and managers for hundreds and in some cases thousands of years as an aid to understanding, explaining, and managing communications and relationships.
Used appropriately, psychometrics and personality tests can be hugely beneficial in improving knowledge of self and other people – motivations, strengths, weaknesses, preferred thinking and working styles, and also strengths and preferred styles for communications, learning, management, being managed, and team-working. Understanding personality – of your self and others – is central to motivation.
Different people have different strengths and needs. The more you understand about personality, the better able you are to judge what motivates people – and yourself. The more you understand about your own personality and that of other people, the better able you are to realise how others perceive you, and how they react to your own personality and style. Knowing how to adapt the way you work with others, how you communicate, provide information and learning, how you identify and agree tasks, are the main factors enabling successfully managing and motivating others – and yourself.
Importantly you do not necessarily need to use a psychometrics instrument in order to understand the theory and the basic model which underpins it. Each theory helps you to understand more about yourself and others. In terms of ‘motivating others’ you cannot sustainably ‘impose’ motivation on another person. You can inspire them perhaps, which lasts as long as you can sustain the inspiration, but sustainable motivation must come from within the person.

At age 38, the participants had physical exams that checked for abnormalities of liver and kidney functions, blood pressure, heart and lung fitness, vascular inflammation and severe gum disease. Being conscientious appeared to be the best bet for good health among the ‘Big Five’ traits.
People who were more conscientious at age 26 were more likely to be in much better health at age 38 than those who were low in that personality trait, the study found. Psychologists have argued assessing patients’ personalities during routine medical exams could prove as useful for family doctors as recording their family medical histories and smoking habits ‘Among the least conscientious, 45 percent went on to develop multiple health problems by age 38, while just 18 percent of the most conscientious group developed health problems,’ said lead author Salomon Israel, of Duke University and Duke University Medical Center.
They added a surprising find was that being neurotic at age 26 was not linked to poorer physical health at age 38, contrary to some theories that aspects of neuroticism such as stress and anxiety can lead to ill health. This was the case even though the neurotic participants rated themselves in poorer health at the later age, according to the study. But the latter trait can also encourage unhealthy habits like overeating and excessive alcohol consumption — and in turn, obesity and chronic conditions such as diabetes and heart disease.
Researchers at the University of Nottingham found that the genes that trigger inflammation were 17 percent more active in this personality type — and long-term inflammation has been linked with a host of diseases later in life such as cancer and heart disease. However, they may also be more at risk of weight- and stress-related diseases, including obesity and diabetes — partly due to ‘people pleasing’.
Researchers from Case Western Reserve University discovered that if a ‘pleaser’s’ friend decides to order a dessert, the pleaser will match the amount of food the friend eats so the friend won’t feel uncomfortable.
